What inspired you to pursue a dual career as both a colorist and stylist? As a European, I grew up in an environment where the roles of colorist and stylist were not separated, which has always intrigued me. Both my grandfather and mother were stylists, inspiring me to follow in their footsteps and carry on their legacy. I have spent over 30 years as both a colorist and stylist, beginning my journey in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

After relocating to Chicago, I faced challenges in building a clientele due to my limited English skills. However, I was determined to continue my work from Bosnia, so I started as a shampoo assistant. I actively sought knowledge by asking questions and enrolling in classes to enhance my skills. Earning the trust of those around me was essential before I could resume cutting and styling hair. Once I proved my potential and abilities, I was given my own chair to start working from.

How do you stay updated on the latest trends in both hair color and styling techniques? The connections I have nurtured with clients over the years have inspired me to keep learning new techniques for personalizing each individual's hair. I consistently enroll in classes to enhance my knowledge about hair color, cutting, and products. Grasping various styles and methods in the art of hair is essential for crafting a stunning variety of textures, colors, and layers. Your hair reflects your personality, and to truly capture a client’s vision, it has always been vital for me to stay informed about the latest trends and techniques.

What is your favorite hairstyle or trend right now, and why do you love it? I absolutely love doing color corrections so that clients fall in love with their hair. When clients come to me with unsatisfactory results from previous color treatments, I see it as a challenge to rectify the situation and create a smooth transition to match their vision. Witnessing the joy on a client's face after I've reworked their hair and color inspires me to improve continually and listen attentively to their wishes, allowing me to craft the stunning works of art they desire on their heads.

What is your favorite hobby to outside of work? Enjoying nature, going on hikes, and cherishing moments with my children, grandchildren, and dog.
